Poet’s Job Description

Poet’s Job Description

Feck this careful card house
Constructed to constriction
Toss the weary prose of textbook diction
To hell with anyone imposing
Social benediction.

In the face of every last insistence
That I get a car to drive
And a place to go from nine to five
When I’m asked what I do for a living
I’ll tell them –
I’ve enough to do to stay alive
To offer my resistance
Against a world hell-bent
On reducing me to mere existence.
